Safety remarks
We would like to thank you for the trust in our products. However your safety is the most important aspect for us. Therefore, we recommend that you carefully read this manual.
General
Rims are subject to wear. The following problems can occur due to environmental or mechanical impact, fatigue or simply wear out. In case of any cracks or strong deformation please do not continue to use the rim exchange them immediately. You risk your life.
Exchanging a rim requires a high degree of bicycle mechanical skills. We strongly advise this to be done by a professional bicycle mechanic. If you are not a professional bicycle mechanic you ride at your own risk.
Tire bed
The nipple holes in the tire bed can weaken the tire bed. Cracks can occur starting from these holes. Please look also below your rim tape.
Nipple bed
Nipples load force to the area of the nipple hole and can cause a fatigue. Cracks could appear as a consequence.
Rim hooks
Mechanical impacts can deform the rim hooks. In this case a secure tire fit cannot be guaranteed anymore. We strongly advise not to repair the rim with a plier and bend the hook back.
Braking surface
If the rim is part of the braking system, the sidewall is subject of wear. If the wall thickness is less than 0,9mm the rim should be exchanged. The wear rate depends on the riding conditions. Dirt between the brake pad and rim can influence the life time as well as correct braking performance. If deep grooves are visible ask your dealer to check the wall thickness as soon as possible. If the hook is deforming to the outside or braking performance is changing ask your dealer to check the wall thickness as soon as possible.
A special tool is needed for this check. In case your rim has a CSS braking surface please use the special brake pads a high wear out of brake pads could be possible. Ask your local dealer for this. Further information can be found here
Checking interval
For your own safety interests any kind of significant deformation of the wheel could be caused by one of the above mentioned problems. In this case please check tire bed, nipple bed, hooks and sidewall as well as spoke tension. Below are the minimum service intervals to guarantee a safe ride.
check interval
timing
tire bed
annually
nipple hole
100h riding or every 2000km
hook deformation
after heavy impact or flat tire
break area side wall
after wear out of brake pads, 100h riding or every 2000km
Possible Tire-rim combination
If the rim is mentioned to be ETRTO conform (visible number on the sticker) please follow the ETRTO rules.

For wider rims or rims not following the ETRTO standard the tire sizes are mentioned on the sticker of the rim.
Max. Tire pressure
Please take a look at the tire. Ryde follows the recommendation of the tire manufacturer, if not mentioned differently on the stickers of the rim.
Tire mounting
Please do not use metal tire levers to mount the tire. Metal tire lever can damage the hooks or the rim bed. For offset rims you should start mounting the tire on the short side.
Rim tape
Please use rim tape which is not wider than the inner width of the rim. For tubeless tires a space of maximum 1mm between tape and rim hook is advised.
